Plumber cover letter example

A strong plumber cover letter shows your NVQ level, the jobs you do most and how you treat customers' homes. Be honest about Gas Safe registration and only claim it for gas work if you hold it.

Copperfield Heating and Plumbing

Dear Mrs Holloway,

I am applying for the Plumber role at Copperfield Heating and Plumbing. I hold NVQ Level 3 in plumbing and heating, and for the past three years I have fitted bathrooms, replaced radiators and found leaks in occupied homes for a family-run firm.

Customers usually ring me on a bad day, so I try to make the rest of it easy. Last winter a pipe burst above a kitchen at 7am. I shut off the water, dried the area, made the repair by ten and left a short note explaining what had happened and what to watch for. I cover floors and furniture before I start and clean up when I finish.

Copperfield has a good name locally for heating installations, which is the work I would like to do more of. I do not carry out gas work at present, and I would like to train for Gas Safe registration with your support. I have a full UK driving licence and a fully stocked van.

Thank you for considering my application. I would be glad to discuss it with you.

Yours sincerely,

Naomi Adeyemi

Yes, if the advert involves gas work. Say clearly whether you hold it, and if you do not, say what you can do and that you would like to train.

How do I show I am good with customers?

Give a short example, such as a call-out where you stayed calm and left a note explaining the repair.

Should I write about being an apprentice or trainee?

Yes, if it is recent. Say what you have learned, what you can do unsupervised and that you are keen to keep learning.
