What the CV checker looks at

The same basics a recruiter, and the software many employers use, look for first.

  • Readable text

Scanned pictures of a CV can’t be read by software. We check that your words come through.

  • Clear sections

A profile, work experience, education and skills, each easy to find.

  • Action words

Lines that start with what you did, not “responsible for”.

  • Numbers

How many customers, people, orders or years. Numbers make your work real.

  • UK conventions

No date of birth or marital status, no “references on request”, British spelling.

  • Length and tone

One to two pages, fewer tired phrases, and not too much “I”.

Step into an employer’s shoes

A busy manager might have a pile of CVs for one job. They skim the top for who you are, then look for the job title, the dates and a few lines about what you did.

Clear headings, short bullet points and one real example per job make that easy. That’s what this checker nudges you towards, and what Ceev writes for you.

Questions about the CV checker

Is the CV checker free?

Yes, completely. There’s no sign-up and no limit on how many times you fix and re-check, apart from a short wait if you check lots of CVs in a minute.

Do you keep my CV?

No. Your file is read once to make the report and then thrown away. It isn’t saved, shared or used for anything else.

What does the checker look at?

Whether a computer can read your text, the length, your contact details, the main sections (profile, experience, education, skills), bullet points, action words, numbers, the order of your jobs, overused phrases, personal details UK employers don’t need, and UK spelling.

Is this an ATS checker?

Many employers use recruitment software (sometimes called an ATS) to read CVs. We check the basics that software and people both rely on, like readable text and clear sections. Every employer’s system is different, so no checker can promise how one will score you.

How is the score worked out?

A pass scores full marks, “worth a look” half, and “fix this” none. The basics (readable text, length, contact details and work experience) count double, and anything marked “fix this” keeps your score below 65 until it’s fixed.

How do I fix what it finds?

Each result says what to change. If you’d rather not do it by hand, choose Improve my CV: add your CV and Ceev rewrites it with you, in plain words, from your own facts.
