Apprentice cover letter example
A strong apprenticeship cover letter names the apprenticeship, gives your key GCSE grades and shows real practical experience, even if it was only a week of work experience. It should be clear that you are reliable, careful and eager to learn the trade.

Brightwell Electrical Services
Dear Mrs Varga,
I am writing to apply for the Installation and Maintenance Electrician apprenticeship at Brightwell Electrical Services. I have just finished school with GCSEs including maths at grade 5 and English at grade 4, and I want to train as an electrician while I earn.
I spent a week on work experience with a small electrical firm, shadowing a qualified electrician on domestic jobs. I passed tools, pulled cable and cleared up at the end of each job, and I learned why the power is isolated and tested before any work starts. I also help at weekends with my uncle's building firm, carrying materials, loading the van and keeping the site tidy, so I am used to early starts.
I would like to work for Brightwell because you train apprentices on a mix of homes and small commercial jobs, so I would see different kinds of work. I am careful, I ask questions when I am unsure, and I like working with my hands and solving problems. I can get to sites by bus or with a lift, and I am ready to attend college as part of the apprenticeship.
I would be grateful for the chance to meet you. Thank you for considering my application.
Yours sincerely,
Harvey Stone
