IT support technician cover letter example

A strong IT support technician cover letter shows the systems you support, how you handle tickets and how you explain problems to non-technical people. It should include one real example of a fix or improvement and name any certificate you hold.

Stoneleigh Managed IT Services

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to apply for the IT Support Technician role at Stoneleigh Managed IT Services. I have two years of service desk experience supporting around 120 staff in a small professional firm, and I hold CompTIA A+.

Each day I handle 15 to 20 tickets by phone, email and in person, from password resets and printer faults to setting up new laptops and fixing Microsoft 365 problems. I use remote support tools for people working from home, and I keep clear notes in each ticket so the next person can see what was done. I never make anyone feel silly for asking, and I follow up to check the fix has held.

Last year I noticed that the same multi-factor authentication question kept coming up. I wrote a three-step guide with screenshots and shared it with staff, and far fewer people rang about it after that.

Stoneleigh looks after many small businesses, and I would enjoy learning different set-ups and solving varied problems. I explain things in plain English and stay calm when someone is under pressure. I have a full driving licence for client visits. Thank you for considering my application.

Kind regards,

Sanjay Kulkarni

Questions about it support technician cover letters

Do I need a certificate to apply?

Not always, but a certificate such as CompTIA A+ can help at entry level. Experience and a home lab also count.

What if I have no IT job experience yet?

Use college projects, helping family or friends, volunteering or a home lab. Describe what you fixed and how you worked it out.

Should I list every tool I know?

No. Name the two or three most relevant to the advert and put the rest on your CV.

How technical should the letter be?

Keep it plain. The person reading may be an office manager as well as a technical lead.
