Data analyst cover letter example
A strong data analyst cover letter describes one real question, how you used data to answer it and what changed afterwards. It should name your main tools and show that you can explain findings to people who are not data specialists.

Brightmoor Housing Group
Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing to apply for the Data Analyst role at Brightmoor Housing Group. I have three years of experience as a data analyst, most recently at a housing association, where I use SQL, Excel and Power BI every week to turn repairs, rent and tenant data into reports for managers.
One project I am proud of began with a simple question from the operations team: why were some repairs taking so long? I pulled the data with SQL, cleaned duplicate and missing records, and built a Power BI dashboard showing repair time by area and job type. The team used it in their monthly meetings to look at the slowest areas first.
I also automated a weekly Excel report with a short Python script, saving around two hours each week. I check my numbers against another source before sharing them, and I explain findings in short written summaries without jargon.
I want to keep working in housing because the data affects people's homes, and Brightmoor's published repairs targets show that you take it seriously. I would be glad to discuss how I could help. Thank you for considering my application.
Kind regards,
Ewan Mackay
Tips for a data analyst cover letter

- Show that you check your numbers and explain them in plain English
- Say why you want to work in that sector, using one real detail about the employer
