Hairdresser cover letter example
A strong hairdresser cover letter shows your qualification, the services you do well and one real example of a client who came back to you. It should also say when you can work and why you want to join that particular salon.

Lavender Row Hair Studio
Dear Mrs Brennan,
I am writing to apply for the Stylist position at Lavender Row Hair Studio, which I saw on your website. I hold an NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing and have worked for three years in an independent salon, where I cut, colour and style around 25 clients a week.
Last spring a client came in unhappy with a home colour that had turned patchy. I talked through what she wanted, did a patch test and a strand test, and corrected it over two visits. She has booked with me every six weeks since and now brings her daughter too. I always start with a proper consultation, because it saves time and avoids surprises for everyone.
I would like to join Lavender Row because I enjoy the relaxed, regular-client style of salon, and I read on your website that you run colour training days, which would help me keep learning. I am happy to work Saturdays and some evenings, and I keep my station clean and my tools sterilised between every client.
I would be glad to come in for a trial day or an interview. Thank you for considering my application.
Yours sincerely,
Kayleigh Morrison
Tips for a hairdresser cover letter
- Name your qualification, such as NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Hairdressing, in the first paragraph
- Give one real example, such as fixing a colour problem or keeping a regular client, rather than writing that you are good with people
- Mention the services the salon offers that you can do, such as colour, cutting or bridal styling
- Say when you can work, especially Saturdays and evenings, because salons are busiest then
- Offer a trial day if the salon runs them, since many owners want to see you work
Pair it with a CV: see our hairdresser CV example.
