Cashier cover letter example
A strong cashier cover letter shows that you are careful with money and calm with customers, backed by one real example. It should also say how close you live and which shifts you can work, since shops need people who can cover early starts, late closes and weekends.

Millbrook Convenience Store
Dear Mr Hargreaves,
I would like to apply for the Cashier position at Millbrook Convenience Store, advertised in your shop window. For the past two years I have worked on the tills at a busy town-centre supermarket, taking cash and card payments, handling refunds and checking ID for age-restricted items.
I am careful with money. I cash up my own till at the end of every shift, and on the few occasions the count has been out by a few pence, I have told the duty manager straight away and helped to find the reason. Last December the queues often reached the back of the shop, and I kept serving at a steady pace and stayed polite with customers who had been waiting. I also showed two new colleagues how to clear alerts at the self-checkout.
I live a ten-minute walk from Millbrook Convenience Store and already shop there, so I know the layout and like how staff greet people by name. I am available for early openings, late closes and weekends, which I understand are the hardest shifts to cover in a small shop.
Thank you for considering my application. I would be glad to meet you to talk about the role.
Yours sincerely,
Amara Okafor
Tips for a cashier cover letter
- Name the till tasks you have done, such as cash, card, refunds and self-checkout, so the letter matches the advert
- Give one example of being trusted with money, such as cashing up or carrying a float
- Say how close you live and which shifts you can do, because small shops care a lot about who can cover early and late hours
- Mention age-restricted sales if you have done them, in a short, matter-of-fact line
- If you hand your application in person, bring a printed copy and ask for the manager by name
Pair it with a CV: see our cashier CV example.
