Taxi driver cover letter example
A strong taxi driver cover letter states your council licence and enhanced DBS check, then shows local knowledge and care for passengers with one short example. It should also say which hours you can cover, since firms need drivers at awkward times.

Abbeygate Private Hire
Dear Hiring Manager,
I am applying to drive for Abbeygate Private Hire. I hold a private hire driver licence from my local council, a current enhanced DBS check and a clean driving licence, and I have driven for a town-centre taxi firm for the past four years.
Most of my work is pre-booked airport and station runs, with school and hospital contracts during the week. I know the town and surrounding villages well, and I use the booking app and satnav to avoid traffic. Being on time is the job. Last month I collected a patient for an early hospital appointment, and when roadworks blocked the usual route I took a back road so they arrived ten minutes early.
I keep my car spotless and check tyres, lights and fluids before every shift. I try to make every passenger feel safe, from late-night customers to older passengers who need help with bags or a walking frame. I have completed safeguarding awareness training through my council.
I am available for early mornings, evenings and weekends, and I am happy to talk through my licence and vehicle details at interview. Thank you for your time.
Kind regards,
Yusuf Rahman
Tips for a taxi driver cover letter
- Say which council licensed you and whether you hold a hackney carriage or private hire licence
- Mention your enhanced DBS check and any safeguarding training, particularly for school and hospital work
- Give one example of a journey where local knowledge or calm driving helped the passenger
- State the hours you can cover, including early starts and late nights
- Keep it short and friendly, because the people reading it are usually busy
Pair it with a CV: see our taxi driver CV example.
