Store manager cover letter example

A strong store manager cover letter opens with the size of the store and team, then gives one or two results with numbers and one example of developing people. It should say why you want this store and what you would hope to bring to it.

Brightwater Home Store

Dear Mr Sandhu,

I am applying for the Store Manager position at Brightwater Home Store. For the last three years I have managed a busy convenience store, leading a team of twelve and looking after rotas, ordering, stock control and the weekly sales target. I would now like to bring that experience to a larger home store.

Two results from my current store show how I work. I raised weekly sales by about eight percent in a year by fixing availability on our top-selling lines, and I cut out-of-date waste by checking dates every morning and trimming orders to match what we really sold. I also spend time with my team. Everyone has a regular one-to-one with me, and two of my colleagues have since become supervisors.

Brightwater Home Store's focus on advice and service is what draws me to the role. I like customers to leave having found what they came for, and I like to hear how we handled it when something went wrong. I am used to reading the numbers, making decisions and supporting people through busy periods such as Christmas and the January sale.

I would be glad to discuss the role and my ideas for the store at interview. Thank you for considering my application.

Yours sincerely,

Fiona Gallagher

Questions about store manager cover letters

Who should I address a store manager cover letter to?

Try to find the name of the area manager or recruiter in the advert or on the company's careers page. If you cannot, 'Dear Hiring Manager' with 'Kind regards' is fine.

How many figures should I include?

One or two well-chosen figures are enough. More than that and the letter reads like a report. Put the rest on your CV.

Should I mention compliance and health and safety?

A short line is enough. Most of the letter should be about people, sales and standards.
