Visual merchandiser cover letter example
A strong visual merchandiser cover letter tells the story of one display, covering the brief, the budget and the result, and points to your portfolio. It should show that you understand how displays support sales and that you can work to deadlines.

Featherstone Department Store
Dear Ms Adeyemi,
I am applying for the Visual Merchandiser vacancy at Featherstone Department Store. For the last three years I have planned and installed windows and in-store displays for the fashion and homeware floors of a high-street store, working from head office briefs and planograms and finishing changeovers before opening.
Last autumn I was given a small budget to dress a window for a new candle and homeware range. I built the backdrop from reclaimed wood and fabric offcuts, came in early to finish it before opening, and moved the feature products to the front table. The range became our best seller that month, and the display was later copied in other branches.
Featherstone Department Store's Christmas windows are the ones I take my family to see every year, so I know the standard you set. I am organised, I work safely at height, and I am used to working overnight when a store reset needs it. A link to my portfolio of recent displays is on my CV.
I would be happy to bring printed photographs to an interview. Thank you for considering my application.
Yours sincerely,
Imogen Price
Tips for a visual merchandiser cover letter
- Point to your portfolio in the letter and check that the link works
- Tell one short story about a display, including the brief, the budget and the result
- Show that you understand how displays support sales, not just how they look
- Mention practical skills such as planograms, changeovers, working at height and overnight or early work
- Say something honest about why you like this store's displays or brand
Pair it with a CV: see our visual merchandiser CV example.
