Receptionist cover letter example

A strong receptionist cover letter shows a professional, welcoming tone and organisational confidence, since this role is usually the first point of contact for an employer. One specific example of managing calls, visitors or diaries at once helps bring the letter to life.

Oakwood Solicitors

Dear Mr Hughes,

I am writing to apply for the Receptionist role at Oakwood Solicitors advertised on your website. I currently manage front-of-house duties for a busy professional services office, greeting visitors, answering and directing calls, and coordinating diaries and meeting rooms for a small team. I also handle incoming and outgoing post and keep visitor sign-in records up to date in line with building security procedures.

On a morning when three meetings overran at once, I rearranged the diary, kept visitors comfortably informed of the delay, and made sure each meeting room was ready in turn without anyone feeling rushed. I am confident with Microsoft Office and comfortable handling confidential visitor and post records in line with office procedures.

I would like to work at Oakwood Solicitors because your reception is often the first thing clients mention when I have visited the building, and I would take pride in maintaining that standard. I understand how much a calm, professional first impression matters for a solicitors' office, and I would bring that same care to every visitor and call. I am available for full-time office hours and can start at short notice.

I would welcome the chance to discuss the role further and thank you for considering my application.

Yours sincerely,

Laura Simmons

Questions about receptionist cover letters

Do I need office experience to write a good receptionist cover letter?

No, strong communication and organisational skills from other customer-facing roles transfer well; describe those clearly instead.

Should I mention confidentiality in a receptionist cover letter?

Yes, a brief mention that you handle visitor or client information discreetly is useful, since receptionists often see sensitive details.

How formal should a receptionist cover letter be?

Keep it professional and polished throughout, since the tone of the letter itself is a small demonstration of your front-of-house manner.
