Care assistant cover letter example

A strong care assistant cover letter shows genuine patience and reliability, backed by one respectful example of supporting someone with daily living or personal care. Mentioning your training and a current DBS check, without naming residents, reassures the employer quickly.

Riverside Care Home

Dear Ms Patel,

I would like to apply for the Care Assistant role at Riverside Care Home advertised on your careers page. I currently support residents with personal care, dressing and mobility in a residential care home, following individual care plans and recording medication prompts accurately in daily logs. I also help organise small group activities to support residents' wellbeing and enjoy building trusted relationships with them over time.

One resident I supported found mornings particularly difficult, and by adjusting my approach and giving her extra time and reassurance, our routine together became calmer for both of us. I communicate regularly with families about changes in wellbeing and follow safeguarding and infection control procedures at all times.

I am drawn to Riverside Care Home because of its focus on person-centred care, which matches how I already try to work. I believe building consistent, trusted relationships with residents makes a real difference to their day-to-day comfort, and I would value the chance to do that here. I hold a current enhanced DBS check and a completed care certificate, and I am flexible with early, evening and weekend shifts.

I would be glad to discuss my experience further at interview. Thank you for taking the time to read my application.

Yours sincerely,

Sarah Whitmore

Questions about care assistant cover letters

Should I describe personal care tasks in detail in a cover letter?

Keep it general and respectful rather than describing tasks in detail; the letter should show your approach and reliability, with fuller detail saved for interview.

Do I need qualifications to apply for a care assistant role?

Many entry-level roles do not require formal qualifications, so focus your letter on patience, reliability and any relevant training you have completed.

How do I show empathy without sounding vague in a cover letter?

Use one short, real example of adapting your approach to a person's needs rather than a general statement about caring for people.
