Labourer cover letter example
A strong labourer cover letter is short and plain. It shows that you work safely, turn up on time and help the trades, and it names your CSCS card, driving licence and any tasks or tools you know.

Fenwick Building Contractors
Dear Hiring Manager,
I am applying for the General Labourer vacancy at Fenwick Building Contractors. I have worked for three years on new-build and extension sites with a family-run building firm, mixing mortar and concrete, moving materials and keeping the site clean and safe.
My main job is to keep the bricklayers supplied, so they never have to stop and wait. I start early, have the mortar ready and the materials close to the wall, and clear rubble into the skip as I go. On my last job I also helped the groundworkers dig trenches and lay drainage for two extensions, and I took on any task the site manager needed done. I wear the right PPE and go to every site induction and toolbox talk.
I am looking for a bigger firm where I can keep learning and work towards a trade. I hold a CSCS Labourer card and a full UK driving licence, and I am happy to travel to different sites.
Thank you for your time. I would be glad to come and meet you on site or at the office.
Kind regards,
Liam Docherty
Tips for a labourer cover letter
- Keep the letter short and plain; a few clear paragraphs are enough for site work
- Name your CSCS card, driving licence and any tickets, such as manual handling or working at height
- List the tasks you do, such as mixing, digging, loading and clearing, and the trades you support
- Say that you turn up on time and work safely, with one example if you can
- Tell them what you want next, such as learning a trade, so they know you are keen
