Groundworker cover letter example

A strong groundworker cover letter shows the work you do, your CSCS card and plant tickets, and your safe working habits. It should give one example of a job done well and say that you are comfortable working outdoors and travelling.

Ridgeway Groundworks

Dear Mr Iqbal,

I am applying for the Groundworker role at Ridgeway Groundworks. I hold a CSCS card and NPORS tickets for excavators and dumpers, and for the last five years I have dug foundations, laid drainage and poured concrete on new housing sites.

Safe digging is something I take seriously. Before every dig I scan for buried services with a cable avoidance tool and mark them on the ground. I keep trenches supported, barriers in place and walkways clear. On my last site I laid around 200 metres of drainage pipe, built four manholes and backfilled in layers, and everything passed inspection the first time. I also work well with the site manager and the labourers, and I am happy to do the hard graft as well as run the machine.

Ridgeway's mix of housing and commercial work would let me learn more about road and drainage schemes, which is where I would like to grow. I am comfortable working outside in all weathers, and I hold a full UK driving licence. I can travel and work away when needed.

Thank you for your time. I would welcome the chance to meet you.

Yours sincerely,

Dean Fletcher

Questions about groundworker cover letters

Should I list all my tickets in the letter?

Mention the main ones, such as CSCS and plant tickets, and leave the full list with expiry dates for your CV.

What if I have only been a groundworks labourer?

Say what you have done on site, such as digging, laying kerbs and helping with drains, and that you would like to train as an operator.

Do I need to mention the weather?

One short line that you are happy working outside in all weathers is enough, since it is part of the job.
