Intern cover letter example
A strong intern cover letter says what you study, when you are free to start, and gives one real example of something you have made or run. It should also show that you know the organisation and want to learn from its team.

Kestrel Community Trust
Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing to apply for the Marketing Intern position at Kestrel Community Trust. I am in the second year of a Business and Marketing degree and I am free to work from June to September.
I run social media for my university's film society, which has around 400 members. I plan and post three times a week, design posters in Canva, and write and send the monthly newsletter. After I noticed that short behind-the-scenes videos got more shares than event posters, I changed the plan and our screenings filled up faster.
I also volunteer at a local charity shop, where I photograph items for our online listings and change the window display each fortnight. It has shown me how much a small charity depends on its volunteers and how carefully each pound is spent.
I would like to intern at Kestrel because I read your annual report and liked how clearly you explain where donations go. I would like to learn how your team turns that into posts and emails. I can start in June. Thank you for considering my application.
Kind regards,
Anjali Desai
Tips for a intern cover letter
- Say what you study and when you can start and finish, so they can see whether the dates fit
- Use society work, projects and volunteering as real examples, with one specific result
- Show that you have looked at the organisation, for example by mentioning a report, campaign or post you liked
- Say what you hope to learn, because interns are hired partly for their potential
- Keep the tone friendly and confident, and keep the letter to one page
