Childminder cover letter example
A strong childminder cover letter shows that you keep children safe and plan play around the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), backed by one example of a child's progress. It should also mention your first aid training, your DBS status and how you talk to parents.

Brambles Childminding Agency
Dear Mrs Hargreaves,
I am writing to apply for the childminder role with Brambles Childminding Agency, advertised on your website. For five years I have cared for children from babies to Year 4 in my own home, and I would like the support that an agency can give.
Every day I plan play around the Early Years Foundation Stage, including messy play, story time and trips to the park, and I keep a simple record of what each child enjoys and learns. Last winter a two-year-old in my care hardly spoke at first. By the spring he was naming the animals in our picture books. I shared this with his parents each evening, and they told me it helped them to talk with him about it at home.
I hold a current paediatric first aid certificate, safeguarding training and an enhanced DBS check, and I review a written risk assessment for my home every term. I can offer full-time places, including early starts for parents who work shifts, and I am happy to offer settling-in visits for new families.
I would be glad to show you my setting and my records in person. Thank you for considering my application.
Yours sincerely,
Sian Morgan
Tips for a childminder cover letter
- Say whether you are already registered, or in the process of registering, so the reader knows where you stand
- Give one example of a child's progress or a parent's feedback, without naming anyone
- Mention paediatric first aid, safeguarding training and your DBS status plainly
- State the hours and ages of children you can offer, including early starts or late pick-ups
- Explain how you keep parents informed, since communication is a big part of the job
Pair it with a CV: see our childminder CV example.
