Lunchtime supervisor cover letter example

A strong lunchtime supervisor cover letter sounds warm and calm, and gives one short example of noticing or settling a problem on the playground. It should show you know to pass concerns on and state the short lunchtime hours you can work.

Ashdown Primary School

Dear Mr Ferguson,

I am writing to apply for the Lunchtime Supervisor post at Ashdown Primary School, advertised on your school website. For the last three years I have supervised the dining hall and playground at a busy town primary school, and I enjoy the lunchtime hour as much as any part of the school day.

Lunchtime is when small problems can grow, so I try to notice them early. Last term I saw a Year 2 child eating very little and looking upset. I sat with her, found out that she had fallen out with a friend and let her teacher know after lunch. The teacher thanked me for passing it on, and the two girls were playing together again within days.

I help younger children with their food and drinks, follow the school's allergy lists and give first aid for minor bumps, which I record in the accident book. I know to report any worry about a child to the safeguarding lead straight away. I am happy to have an enhanced DBS check and I can work every weekday from 11.45am to 1.15pm.

I live close to Ashdown and would be pleased to help make lunchtime calm and fun for the children. Thank you for considering my application.

Yours sincerely,

Denise Carrick

Questions about lunchtime supervisor cover letters

How long should a lunchtime supervisor cover letter be?

Three or four short paragraphs on one page is plenty. School office staff often read these quickly, so get to your experience early.

Can I use experience from being a parent?

Yes, if you describe it in practical terms, such as managing groups of children, handling allergies and staying calm during arguments. Add any volunteering at a school or club.

Do I need to mention a DBS check?

You can say you are happy to have one. The school arranges an enhanced DBS check for new staff, so you do not need to hold one already.
