The Old Mill Restaurant
Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing to apply for the Kitchen Porter role at The Old Mill Restaurant, which I saw advertised on your website. For the past two years I have worked as a kitchen porter in a busy city-centre restaurant, keeping the kitchen clean and the chefs supplied with clean pots and plates through lunch and dinner service.
I work fast and tidy, and I like a kitchen where everything has its place. At my current job I took over the closing clean, so the morning team walked into a kitchen that was already ready to go. I use cleaning chemicals safely, check deliveries against the delivery note and help the chefs with simple prep when they are short-handed.
I would like to work at The Old Mill because it is a larger kitchen with a varied menu, and I would like to learn more about prep and cooking. I hold a Level 2 food hygiene certificate and I can work evenings, weekends and bank holidays. I am on time for every shift and I do not leave a job half done.
Thank you for considering my application. I would be happy to come in for a trial shift.
Kind regards,
Tomasz Wrobel
Tips for a kitchen porter cover letter
- Keep it short, since kitchen managers are busy; four short paragraphs is enough
- Start with your most relevant kitchen experience and the size of the place
- Give one example of a task you did well, such as a clean-down or a busy service
- State your availability, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays
- Offer a trial shift, which shows you are confident in your work
