Carpenter cover letter example

A strong carpenter cover letter shows the type of carpentry you do, your accuracy and your qualifications. One example of a tricky fit or neat finish is far more convincing than saying you are skilled.

Hazelwood Joinery

Dear Ms Gallagher,

I am applying for the Carpenter vacancy at Hazelwood Joinery. I hold NVQ Level 3 in site carpentry, and for four years I have fitted doors, skirting and staircases, built stud walls and installed kitchens for a small renovation company.

Accuracy is what I enjoy most about carpentry. Last year I fitted a staircase into an old house where no wall was square. I measured twice, made a template and scribed every tread, and the finished stairs had no visible gaps. I read drawings carefully, cut accurately to keep waste down, and keep dust under control when I work in occupied homes. The owners were so pleased that they asked me back for their kitchen.

Hazelwood's name for well-made kitchens and fitted furniture is what draws me to the job, and I would like to do more bespoke work. I hold a CSCS card and a full UK driving licence, and I own a good set of tools. I am happy to work on site or in the workshop.

I would welcome the chance to meet you and show photos of my recent work. Thank you for your time.

Yours sincerely,

Stefan Novak

Questions about carpenter cover letters

Should I write about the tools I own?

Yes, briefly. Many employers expect carpenters to bring their own hand tools, so saying you have a full set is useful.

What if my experience is mostly second fix?

Say so clearly and give an example. Employers often hire specifically for first fix or second fix, so be honest about which you do best.

How do I show quality if I have no references?

Offer photos of your work and describe one job in detail, including the problem and how you solved it.
