Harbour Street Café

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am applying for the Barista position at Harbour Street Café that you have advertised in the window. I currently prepare coffee and hot drinks to a consistent standard at a fast-paced independent café, taking orders and processing payments accurately at the till during busy service. I also enjoy getting to know regular customers and take pride in remembering their usual order.

During a Saturday morning rush with a long queue out of the door, I kept drink quality consistent while working through orders quickly, and a regular customer commented that the service had stayed friendly despite how busy we were. I also restock ingredients, rotate stock to reduce waste, and keep the coffee machine and counter clean throughout shifts.

I would like to work at Harbour Street Café because I enjoy its relaxed, community feel whenever I visit, and I would take pride in being part of that atmosphere. I hold a basic food hygiene certificate and I am available for weekday, weekend and early morning shifts.

I would welcome the chance to discuss the role with you and thank you for considering my application.

Kind regards,

Josh Miller

Questions about barista cover letters

Do I need barista training to write a good cover letter for the role?

No, many cafés train baristas on the job; focus your letter on customer service, reliability and any relevant experience you already have.

How do I show I can cope with a busy café in a short letter?

Use one specific example, such as staying accurate and friendly during a rush, rather than a general statement about working well under pressure.

Should I mention food hygiene knowledge even for a drinks-only role?

Yes, basic food hygiene awareness is relevant to anyone preparing drinks for customers and is worth a brief mention if you hold it.
