Leisure assistant cover letter example

A strong leisure assistant cover letter shows that you can work in more than one part of a busy centre and stay friendly under pressure. It should give one real example of helping a customer and say clearly which shifts you can cover.

Brookfield Leisure Centre

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to apply for the Leisure Assistant role at Brookfield Leisure Centre, which I found on your council jobs page. I have worked for two years as a leisure assistant in a busy council leisure centre, and I hold a current first aid certificate.

On a normal shift I move between reception, the gym and poolside. I sign up members, take payments, set up the sports hall and studio, and carry out cleaning and safety checks. I also help the lifeguards by keeping poolside clear during lessons.

Last summer a member was upset to find that a class had been cancelled. I listened, found a similar class later that day and booked them in, and they thanked me at the desk the following week. I like this kind of problem because most people just want a clear answer and a friendly face.

I would like to work at Brookfield because you run so many activities under one roof, from swimming lessons to junior football, and I enjoy being part of a busy, varied building. I can work early, late and weekend shifts. Thank you for considering my application.

Kind regards,

Rhys Pritchard

Questions about leisure assistant cover letters

Do I need a lifeguard qualification to apply?

Not always. Many roles are open to people with good customer skills, though a lifeguard or first aid qualification can help. Check the advert.

What if I have never worked in a leisure centre?

Write about customer service, cleaning, youth work or sports club experience, and explain how it fits a busy public building.

Should I write to a named person for a council job?

If the advert gives a name, use it. If not, Dear Hiring Manager is fine.
